‘Unto us a child is born, and he will be called Wonderful, Counselor, the Prince of Peace…’ - these words are actually from the book of Isaiah over 600 years before Jesus was born. All the way through the Old Testament, every book contains words about Jesus. Though he was not born yet, he was anticipated by Abraham, Job, David, Solomon and many more. But the birth would not be important if he lived a normal life. Instead, he was always in perfect harmony with God and willingly gave his life so that we can have a hope of eternal peace, joy and rest. Psalm 104 v 19, 24 🍁🍂🍃

In the Bible, God made the rainbow as a symbol of His promise that He would never again destroy everything (Genesis 8:21-22, 9:12-17). Right now it seems as though mankind is on track to destroy the planet. But we know from this promise that God won’t let it be destroyed: in fact He will restore the earth, and rather than destroying us He wants to save us. What a promise! When the sun and rain combine to show us this beautiful spectrum of light, God wants us to remember His grace and look forward to a time when the world will be restored by its Creator. 🌍 🌈

I’m sharing this because an insta reel could be the difference in your day. This stunning view made a difference to me: switching off and heading to the mountains helped me to reset my focus on God. God knows that this is useful too. He describes how people will come to his mountain-temple in order to learn his ways (Isaiah 2), when Jesus returns to establish peace. Whether you are able to visit mountains or not, can you sense the Creator in some small way? We’d love to hear what you do to focus on what’s important.

David had a stressful life. Often he was hungry, tired and thirsty with no food, surrounded by enemies or handling difficult family situations - but in this psalm he says he lacks nothing. He finds peace and guidance from ‘Yahweh’, the God who is with us too. No matter what he went through, David knew that ‘surely your goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life.’ Do we allow ourselves moments to appreciate this? Do we allow him to lead us and refresh us through the hard times? 🌊

We’re waiting for the day when God will judge the Earth in righteousness and all people will go up to Jerusalem to serve Him. This verse is from Amos 5 (verse 24) and earlier in the chapter, verse 14 says ‘seek good, and not evil, that you may live’. In the centre of Cambridge, the closest we have to a mountain is Castle Hill. Whether it’s a mountain, a lay-by, a park bench or even a calm Instagram account - it’s good to have a place to stop our busy lives, reflect, and approach our Creator. We can access him anywhere, at any time. Do you have a special place for prayer or meditation?

This song extract is from one of a collection some of us sung recently at a Bible study camp. The week’s studies circulated around the book of Ruth and the biggest theme that came out was redemption. God has provided us a redeemer through Jesus, and he will always be with us. We must remember this and stay with Him whom ‘under His wings we have come to trust’.
